Hayden Homes Amphitheater brings Anderson .Paak to Bend

Hayden Homes Amphitheater hosts its share of rock ’n’ rollers, country singers, jam bands and pop stars. And we here appreciate all of it.

Big fans of hip-hop, however, have fewer opportunities to hear their favorite stuff at the venue. Which is why it’s important to flag Wednesday’s concert by the excellent California rapper and singer Anderson .Paak.

A skilled drummer who played alongside 50 Cent during the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show, .Paak’s speciality is a brand of hip-hop that is heavily infused with elements of funk, soul and R&B. For evidence of his range, just look at his 13 Grammy nominations: Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best Rap Performance, Best R&B Song, and so on. He has won eight of those 13 times, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Leave The Door Open” by Silk Sonic, his massively popular collaboration with Bruno Mars.

The point is this: Anderson .Paak is a super-talented guy who makes terrific music. He comes to Bend as part of a tour celebrating his second studio album, 2016’s “Malibu,” which The New York Times called “incisive, languorous and deeply felt, a warm bath of studiously relaxed hip-hop and soul.” Expect him to play the album in its entirety.

Anderson .Paak, with The Free Nationals, Maurice Brown and Gawd: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, doors open 6 p.m., $67.20 and up, Hayden Homes Amphitheater, 344 SW Shevlin Hixon Drive, Bend, bendconcerts.com.
