Here are the candidates for The Bulletin’s Athletes of the Week for Aug. 29-Sept. 7 as nominated by local coaches and The Bulletin sports staff.

Girls

Avary Arment, Caldera volleyball: The senior captain has helped the Wolfpack to a 6-1 start in the early stages of the season. Arment has averaged 11 digs per game, with a 92% serving and 2.2 passing average (on a four-point scale) through seven matches this fall.

Magnolia Rowles, Bend cross-country: Rowles was the high-placing Lava Bear at the Saxon Invite on Sept. 7 at Bush Park in Salem. The sophomore had a 12th-place finish with a time of 21 minutes, 28 seconds.

Tayten Wigle, Mountain View soccer: The senior defender’s effort and communication on the back end helped the Cougars in a narrow 2-1 loss to Thurston in their opening game of the season on Sept. 4

Boys

Ishon Ortiz, Ridgeview football: In the Ravens’ 42-28 win over Crescent Valley on Sept. 6, Ortiz ran for 440 yards and scored five touchdowns. Thus far this season, the senior running back has tallied 608 yards and seven touchdowns to help the Ravens to a 2-0 start to the season.

Gabe Lachman, Summit soccer: In Summit’s 4-1 win over Jesuit on Sept. 6, Lachman secured a hat trick with a three-goal performance to help the Storm pick up their first win of the season.

Finley Lyke, Bend cross-country: The junior won the Saxon Invite on Sept. 7, finishing in 16:21.13, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Hudson Gant, Mountain View soccer: In Mountain View’s 2-0 win over Thurston on Sept. 3, the senior captain finished with both a goal and an assist to help the Cougars pick up the victory.
