Two Bend High cross-country runners voted as The Bulletin’s Athletes of the Week

The votes are in for The Bulletin’s Athletes of Week for Aug. 29-Sept. 7. More than 800 votes were cast.
Magnolia Rowles, a sophomore on the Bend High girls cross-country team, and Finley Lyke, a junior on the Bend High boys cross-country team, were voted by Bulletin readers as the boys and girls Athletes of the Week.

Magnolia Rowles, Bend cross-country
Rowles was nominated by Bend High cross-county coach Caleb Hoffmann after she was the highest-placing Lava Bear at the Saxon Invite on Sept. 7 at Bush Park in Salem. The sophomore had a 12th-place finish with a time of 12 minutes, 18.48 seconds.
Finley Lyke, Bend cross-country
Lyke was nominated by Hoffmann after the junior won the 5,000-meter race by a wide margin at the Saxon Invite. Lyke finished in 16:21.13, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the second-place runner.
New nominations will be announced on Tuesday at bendbulletin.com/sports. Central Oregon high school athletes are nominated for the honor by coaches and The Bulletin sports staff.
