Evacuation notices were dropped Tuesday morning for several wildfires burning in Central Oregon, as crews stamp out blazes that nearly forced Sunriver residents from their homes one week ago.

Cooler temperatures have kept fire activity to a minimum as firefighters mop up the 11,000-acre Bachelor Complex Fire burning 20 miles southwest of Bend and the Flat Top and Firestone fires burning a combined 46,500 acres about 18 miles east of La Pine.

Tuesday’s announcement from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office wipes Level 1—Be Ready evacuation orders from Sunriver and Level 3—Go Now orders from areas of the Deschutes National Forest to the west.

Mandatory evacuations were lifted from Mt. Bachelor on Friday. The Backside Fire, which burned just west of the mountain and was part of the Bachelor Complex, is under aerial surveillance after crews finished mop-up operations.

The Little Lava Fire sparked Sept. 8 a few miles south and spread rapidly east toward Sunriver before a dousing rain a few days later. As of Tuesday, crews had secured fire lines along the western, southern and northern parts of the fire, according to a news release.

The Firestone and Flat Top Fire, which sparked Sept. 6 near the border of Deschutes and Lake counties, caused mandatory evacuations for the area north to Pine Mountain near U.S. Highway 20. Crews are still working to extinguish the last sources of heat amid rough terrain on the north edge of the fire.

While evacuations have been lifted, forest closures remain in effect for areas of the Deschutes National Forest.

Slightly drier and windier conditions Tuesday were expected to spur fire activity. Wind speeds could reach 20 to 25 miles per hour on each of the fires, according to a Tuesday report.
