Election 2024: Central Oregon candidate forums planned

Ballots are dropped off at the Deschutes Services Building in Bend on Sunday.

The Deschutes County League of Women Voters and City Club of Central Oregon are planning a number of candidate forums in advance of the Nov. 5 general election.

Candidates range from those seeking positions on the Bend City Council to Deschutes County Sheriff, legislative seats and more.

Questions for all the forums can be submitted through the page for each forum on the City Club of Central Oregon website.

• The Deschutes County Sheriff candidate forum is 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 in-person in the Deschutes County administrative building’s Sawyer Room. It will be moderated by Heather Roberts of Oregon News Radio. The event is free to attend, and audience members are asked to remain silent. Signs are not allowed.

• The Senate District 27 candidate forum is 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 30 in-person in the Deschutes County building’s Sawyer Room. It will be moderated by Emily Cureton Cook. The event is free to attend.

• La Pine mayoral and City Council candidate forums are Oct. 1 in-person in the La Pine Park and Recreation building. The mayoral forum is 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. while the City Council forum is from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. The event is free to attend.

• The Bend City Council candidate forum is Oct. 7 in-person in the Deschutes County building’s Sawyer Room. The position 1 and 3 candidates will have the 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. slot and the position 2 and 4 candidates will have the 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. slot. The forums will be moderated by Aaron Switzer from the Source Weekly. The event is free to attend.

The Oregon House District 53 candidate forum is virtual and scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 8. It will be moderated by Gillian Hodgen of KPOV. The event is free to attend, and the forum attendance link can be found on the website.

• The Sisters City Council candidate forum is 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10. It is in-person in the Sisters Camp Sherman Fire District Community Hall. It will be moderated by Jim Cornelius of the Nugget News. The event is free to attend.

• The U.S. House of Representatives Congressional District 5 candidate forum will be 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 15 and can be viewed on CBS. There is no live audience, though questions can still be submitted in advance.

• The Redmond City Council and mayoral candidate forum will be Oct. 21 in the Redmond Music Hall. The council candidates will have the 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. slot, while the mayoral candidates will have the to 7:45 p.m. slot. Tim Trainor from the Redmond Spokesman will moderate. The event is free to attend.
