Here are the candidates for The Bulletin’s Athletes of the Week for Sept. 9-14 as nominated by local coaches and The Bulletin sports staff.

Girls

Maddie Carney, Caldera cross-country: Carney had a two-minute, 20-second improvement from last year’s time at the Caldera Wolfpack XC 5K to finish second in 18:05 on Sept. 14. The only runner to finish ahead of the sophomore on Saturday was Crescent Valley’s Emily Wisniewski, one of the country’s top high school cross-country runners.

Aubrey Walker, Caldera volleyball: In the Wolfpack’s 3-0 loss to Crook County on Sept. 12, the junior middle blocker made plays both offensively and defensively, finishing with four kills, two blocks and five digs.

Georgia Koch, Redmond soccer: It was a hat trick for the sophomore midfielder, who scored three goals in the Panthers’ 6-0 win over Pendleton on Sept. 11. Koch also finished with an assist in Redmond’s first win of the season.

Azsmita Pennington, Crook County volleyball: In the Cowgirls’ 3-0 win over Caldera on Sept. 12, the senior outside hitter found success from the service line with six aces in her 23 serves.

Boys

Cole Rahi, Culver football: The senior running back had nearly 300 yards from scrimmage in the Bulldogs’ 34-14 win over Colton on Sept. 12. Rahi caught three passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns while carrying the ball 29 times for 168 yards.

Jaycob Miller, Crook County soccer: The senior scored three goals and assisted on another goal to help the Cowboys remain unbeaten on the season with a 5-0 win over Riverside on Sept. 14.

George Roberts, Sisters cross-country: At the Oktoberfest Invitational on Sept. 11 at Silver Falls State Park, the senior runner placed first in the small-school division, finishing with a time of 17:19.

Mason Morical, Caldera cross-country: At the Caldera Wolfpack XC 5K on Sept. 14, the junior runner not only won the race, but broke the course record by 14 seconds with a time of 15:51.

Jordan Best, Mountain View football: The senior wideout caught three touchdown passes and finished with 83 receiving yards in the Cougars’ 41-14 win over Mazama on Sept. 13 to remain undefeated through three games this season.

Ethan Powell, Redmond football: In Redmond’s 35-34 loss to Pendleton on Sept. 13, the senior scored two touchdowns, one on offense and one on defense. He had a 20-yard touchdown reception and returned an interception for a touchdown, while finishing with two tackles.

Landyn Philpott, La Pine football: The three-time wrestling state champion scored in three different ways in La Pine’s 27-26 loss to Klamath Union on Sept. 13. Philpott returned a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown, forced and recovered a fumble and returned it 38 yards for a score, and had a 2-yard touchdown run.

Spencer Davis, Sisters football: In the Outlaws’ 41-22 win over Taft on Sept. 13, the sophomore running back ran for 107 yards on 14 carries. As a defensive back, he finished with six tackles and one fumble recovery.
