A column of smoke rises from the Little Lava Fire on Tuesday.

Firefighters continue to battle the Pine Fire southeast of Bend, with the blaze staying within established dozer lines overnight Tuesday and containment reaching 50%, according to Central Oregon Fire Info.

The fire has burned 6,537 acres, a reduction from previous estimates due to better mapping. Firefighters were expected on Wednesday to continue to secure the perimeter to keep the fire burning about 22 miles southeast of Bend in its current footprint and mop-up areas of heat.

To the west, officials estimate the Little Lava Fire has burned 14,529 acres, according to a Facebook post from the Deschutes National Forest. Containment for the entire Bachelor Complex of fires has reached 63%, according to InciWeb.

Firefighters expected to focus Wednesday on limiting fire growth to the east. Dozers have constructed a line around a roughly 100-acre spot fire near Forest Road 4188. Firefighters were also working in coordination with dozers to establish direct control lines along the fire’s edge east of Forest Road 45, according to the post.

Aircraft were expected to support suppression efforts Wednesday, although visibility may hinder aviation, the post said. Crews also continued to reduce fuels along Road 45 to prepare the road as an eastern control line.

Evacuation notices remain in effect for both fires. The latest can be found on the Deschutes County emergency information webpage, www.deschutes.org/emergency
