‘Rocky Horror,’ ‘Lava Lake Murders’ and other Halloween shows

If you’re looking for scary shows this month and you don’t find any, it won’t be because Raechel Gilland didn’t make any effort. Because if it’s haunting, Halloween-flavored fare you seek as the leaves fall and Halloween slinks nearer, Gilland has you covered. This month, she’s presenting Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” abridged for all ages, a Tim Curry character drag show and helping provide the shadowcast for “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Gilland is presenting these via her production company, Adventure Time Entertainment, but her name is often associated with Clinton Clark. Clark is still blowing up in Chicago with his Clark Week Productions, but Gilland is helping present two of that company’s shows in Bend.

Among the first up is the return of Central Oregon’s Alastair Morley Jaques with “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at Craft Kitchen and Brewery, 62988 Layton Ave., Bend. Catch it while you can because it’s one night only, and after that Jaques, who now lives in a Portland bell tower, is off to present the live presentation of Washington Irving’s classic tall tale (well, not that tall, given the headless thing) in Chicago with Clark Week. Visit common.com/u/clarkweekproductions for ticket info.

That same evening Jaques is in Bend, Gilland’s company is helping out with Central Oregon Community College’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Club, OUT Central Oregon and others to present a 7:30 p.m. screening of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at Regal Old Mill 16, replete with a shadow cast. Costumes are encouraged. Admission is free, but advance registration is required. Visit buytickets.at/rocky/1408639.

Gilland is also directing the return engagement of “High Desert Horror and the Lava Lake Murders,” written by Clark. Look for those performances at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and 25 at Craft Kitchen and Brewery. Tickets are $22 at common.com/u/clarkweekproductions.

Gilland and her merry pranksters will then offer its two all-ages performances of “Dracula” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at Open Space Event Studios, 220 NE Lafayette Ave., Bend. Tickets are $10.

At 7:30 those evenings, things will take a turn toward more adult fare when Adventure Time presents “Don’t Dream it Be it,” a Tim Curry drag show, with performers in drag based on iconic characters he played, including Pennywise in “It,” Wadsworth in “Clue” and of course, Franknfurter from “Rocky.” Visit bendticket.com for more info and tickets.

“Tim Curry is an iconic Halloween man,” Gilland said.

She also wanted to do something for kids on Halloween, because “Halloween is an adult holiday, pretty much,” she said, and so from 3 to 5 p.m. on the holiday itself, Adventure Time will host at Open Space a Kids Halloween Adventure with face painting, pumpkin painting, with the possibility for sticking around for the first “Dracula performance” at 5:30.
