Summit’s Hayden Boaz breaks long-standing cross-country school record

PORTLAND — Summit senior Hayden Boaz won the boys Rose City Championship Invite in a blistering time of 14 minutes, 31 seconds on Friday at Rose City Golf Course for his fourth consecutive victory.
Boaz’s time is currently the third-fastest in the country, and it broke the Summit boys cross-country school record, a 14:32 set by Matthew Maton in 2013.
Caldera junior Mason Morical finished fourth in 14:40.
Central’s Ty Cirino finished second in 14:35 and Boise’s Jack Sheesley was third in 14:36.
Boaz’s, Cirino’s and Morical’s times are the top-three fastest among Oregon runners this year, as the race featured 11 runners who ran under 15 minutes.
Boise won the team competition with 112 points, Ida B. Wells was second with 139, and Summit finished third with 146.
Summit’s Bjorn Blankenship was 25th (15:26) and his teammate Ben Meier placed 27th (15:27).
In the girls race at Rose City, Caldera’s Maddie Carney finished fourth in 17:15. Lakeridge’s Chloe Huyler won the race in 16:32, Crescent Valley’s Emily Wisniewski was second in 16:35, and North Salem’s Nelida Dalgas finished third in 16:46.
Summit had three runners in the top 25: Sophia Capozzi (11th, 17:35), Eva Dicharry (20th, 17:57.02) and Skye Knox (23rd, 17:57.39).
Caldera’s Mia Koernig was 29th in 18:09.19 and her teammate Miley Morical placed 30th in 18:09.57.
Boise won the girls team competition with 125 points, Lincoln was second (140) and Crescent Valley third (160). Summit finished fifth with 177 points and Caldera was seventh with 204.
