"Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors" kicks off Cascades Theatrical Company's 46th season on Friday.

Cascades Theatrical Company enters its 46th season with a solid lineup ranging from musicals to mysteries to dramas.

First on the docket is “Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors,” directed by Richard Choate and written by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen.

The story begins with Mina (Brad Knowles) contracting a mysterious blood-related illness. The disease prompts Mina’s sister, Lucy Westfeldt (Regan Donnell) and Jonathan Harker (Antony Sparrow) to enlist help from a vampire hunter (also played by Brad Knowles).

According to the playbill, Choate chose this version of the vampire tale because it’s chockfull of wordplay, anything-goes pop culture references and laugh-out-loud physical comedy.

Earlier this year, Choate directed “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised] (Again)” and appeared as Robert in “Proof,” both produced by The Greenhouse Cabaret. “Dracula” marks his 15th production in Central Oregon.
