When the Portland Trail Blazers opened their season Wednesday night against the Golden State Warriors, many fans in Central Oregon were left wondering how they could watch the game on television.
Deschutes County residents who want to watch the Portland Trail Blazers on TV this season will have to subscribe to the streaming service BlazerVision for $19.99 per month or $120 per season — at least for now.
The Trail Blazers’ new broadcast partner, Sinclair, does not have an affiliate in Deschutes County, according to Kevin Kinghorn, the Trail Blazers executive vice president and chief marketing officer.
“We’re actively working with our partner Sinclair to bring Blazers basketball to everyone in Deschutes County with a TV and basic antenna,” Kinghorn said.
“We do not have a timeline for that to be resolved, but we are aggressively pursuing coverage in Deschutes Country on a variety of fronts to ensure our fans can easily access Trail Blazers basketball.”
Jefferson and Crook counties — which include Madras and Prineville — are in the Portland designated market area and residents in those counties can watch Blazer games on KATU, the Portland ABC affiliate. As of Jan. 1, 2025, all Trail Blazer games will be broadcast on KUNP in La Grande.
But for the majority of Central Oregon residents — those who live in Bend, Redmond, Sisters, La Pine and Sunriver — subscribing to BlazerVision is currently their only option.
“Deschutes County is unique compared to most other markets in Oregon and Washington as it does not have a Sinclair-owned station, but we are actively working with Sinclair to bring Trail Blazers basketball to Deschutes County fans in the near future,” Kinghorn added.
After ending their broadcast partnership with ROOT SPORTS, the Trail Blazers returned to local, over-the-air television with the launch of the Rip City Television Network in partnership with KATU and its family of affiliates. BlazerVision is a direct-to-consumer streaming service that allows fans to watch Blazers games however they want, wherever they want.
This year’s television broadcast includes the return of Kevin Calabro as play-by-play announcer and Lamar Hurd as analyst.
Fans in Central Oregon can listen to all Trail Blazers games on the radio on 92.5 FM.
The Trail Blazers, who were 21-61 last season and missed the playoffs for the third-straight year, are scheduled for four nationally televised games: Dec. 26 vs. Utah (NBA TV), Jan. 28 vs. Milwaukee (TNT), March 2 at Cleveland (NBA TV) and March 30 at New York (NBA TV).
