Bend’s Epic Aircraft’s E1000 GX carbon fiber turboprop airplane has been named The Coolest Thing Made in Oregon.
Oregon Business & Industry’s annual contest culled through more than 100 Oregon-made products nominated by members of the public. The list was whittled down by voters to 16 finalists.
From that list, Bend’s Epic airplane manufacturer, stood out over Leatherman’s Multitool, made in Portland, according to a press statement.

The contest is designed to celebrate manufacturers, who employ 204,000 people in Oregon, according to the association, which represents businesses in each of the state’s 36 counties.
“Congratulations to Epic Aircraft, Leatherman and the rest of this year’s finalists,” said Angela Wilhelms, Oregon Business & Industry president and CEO, in a prepared statement.
Element 1, also based in Bend, was eliminated from the contest in an earlier round of voting. The clean-energy company uses hydrogen fuel cell technology that uses methanol to create hydrogen through a process that avoids the need for large tanks to store hydrogen.
