When Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Oregon, says she supports an all-of-the-above energy approach, she means it. Her track record in Congress, her vice chairmanship on the Conservative Climate Caucus (CCC) and her commitment to advancing clean energy and reducing global emissions is not just a political talking point.
DeRemer’s energy strategy follows through on what the rest of America and Oregonians want: more clean energy. According to new polling from CRES, a majority of Americans — 71 percent — support the federal government taking action to accelerate U.S. clean energy. However, deploying more clean energy around the country requires significant reform to our federal permitting process.
Today, permitting delays have put an estimated 100 gigawatts of clean energy projects at risk of significant delay, representing over $100 billion of lost investment, and 150,000 lost American jobs. These eye-opening statistics clearly highlight that permitting reform is needed to get more clean energy on our nation’s grid.
Rep. DeRemer knows this well, which is why she led the Full Responsibility and Expedited Enforcement (FREE) Act in the House of Representatives, which is designed to streamline federal permitting and cut through the red tape that slows down the deployment of clean energy projects.
This is not just Rep. DeRemer paying lip service to the idea of supporting clean energy — she’s advocating for legislative solutions to accelerate the deployment of wind, solar and other clean energy sources that are essential to reducing carbon emissions and creating good-paying jobs.
Through her support of the Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy (ADVANCE Act), Rep. DeRemer pushed for the development of next-generation nuclear technologies, which will play a crucial role in decarbonizing the grid and providing affordable, reliable power, especially as energy demand continues to rise. Additionally, Rep. DeRemer promotes common sense forest management that reduces carbon emissions-intensive wildfires with her support of the Fix Our Forests Act.
Working across the aisle, Rep. DeRemer co-sponsored a resolution recognizing National Clean Energy Week, a weeklong celebration of the innovations in clean energy that keep our lights on and emissions down. With 62 percent of Oregon’s state electricity net generation produced from renewable sources, Rep. DeRemer has firsthand experience with the benefits clean energy brings the community.
Rep. DeRemer understands that advancing a clean energy future is not only about protecting the environment but also about creating jobs, promoting innovation and ensuring America’s energy security. She recently signed a letter with 17 other House Republicans in support of clean energy tax credits that are already spurring investment and economic growth in places like Oregon and beyond.
The CCC is one the largest caucuses in the U.S. House of Representatives and is dedicated to advancing Republican solutions for climate change. As vice chair of the caucus, Rep. DeRemer is demonstrating her leadership in advancing clean energy on Capitol Hill.
As the president of Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES), an organization that engages with Republicans who embrace an all-of-the-above energy approach to policy, I can attest Rep. DeRemer is a champion for her constituents and American-made clean energy.
Rep. DeRemer’s role as vice chair of the CCC is not only a badge of honor, but also a testament to her leadership and her ability to balance conservative values with forward-thinking climate and energy policy. She walks the talk, and her actions are shaping a cleaner energy future for Americans.
