From the editor’s desk: What does The Bulletin’s new ownership mean to you?

Published 2:30 am Monday, October 28, 2024

As many of you may have already heard or read, The Bulletin is being sold to Carpenter Media Group, a company with more than 160 locations and 250 titles across the U.S.

What does that change for The Bulletin’s subscribers? To our readership, the differences will be subtle — maybe a slightly different look online and in print, and perhaps more bylines on our inside pages from Carpenter’s other newly purchased regional news publications, including the Madras Pioneer and Central Oregonian — but Bend’s legacy newspaper will remain focused on local news.

The Central Oregon based staff will continue to bring you insights about city and county government activities, housing and homelessness responses and solutions, environmental issues, wildfire concerns, public safety activities, election races, local restaurants, ways to enjoy the outdoors and more. That remains the same.

Is The Bulletin staff anxious about the new ownership? Sure. Changes are inherently challenging.  But The Bulletin employees are steadfast in their mission to find truths and empower our community with information by delivering critical local news that helps people make informed decisions.

The first paragraph in Carpenter Media Group’s message from Chairman Todd Carpenter states: “Our reason for being is simply this: Communities with effective journalists, newspapers, and digital news organizations tend to be strong communities. We recognize our role and responsibility in protecting and leading these local news organizations, some of which are now more than 160 years old, vital to every person and institution that makes up the community served.”

What do we need from readers of this newsletter and subscribers? We need your continued support and attention to local news. If you haven’t already, please consider subscribing today and stay informed about Central Oregon.
