Republican Rep. Vikki Breese-Iverson soundly defeated her Democratic rival Brian Samp in Tuesday’s election, and will hold her seat in Oregon House District 59.
Breese-Iverson, the incumbent, won with 71.7% of the vote compared to 28.1% for Samp, according to results posted Wednesday afternoon.
Breese-Iverson, of Prineville, has held the seat for five years and describes herself as a voice for rural Oregon in Salem.
She has mentioned homelessness and a housing shortage as two of Central Oregon’s most pressing issues.
Samp, an electrician, was running as a change candidate and said he decided to run for office to provide more transparency and information to the public on government affairs.
