- Students exit the front entrance of Mountain View High School in April 2022.
Students at Mountain View High School were on a limited lockdown for about 30 minutes on Tuesday as Bend Police investigated a possible threat of a possibly armed person, police said.
The threat was reported at 8:24 a.m. when a caller reported seeing a male in his 20s, possibly with a handgun, according to Bend Police.
The limited lockdown was lifted at 9:03 a.m., said Becca Burda, Bend La Pine Schools assistant communications director. Lockdown is the protocol the school district uses to secure individual classrooms and keep occupants quiet and in place during a threat or other emergency.
Police used drones and searched on foot on the campus, the parking lot and surrounding neighborhoods to locate the possible suspect.
Meanwhile students were allowed to enter the building through the main entrance and classes remained on schedule, Burda said. School resource officers were posted at the other doors to keep the building secure during the limited lockdown.
An increased police presence remained throughout the day, according to a police statement.
