Seth Taylor won the Jefferson County Commission Position 3 seat by 100 votes Wednesday afternoon, when the last of Jefferson County’s ballots were counted.

He had 50.3% of support, while his opponent Brandie McNamee had 49.3% of the vote.

McNamee and Taylor, the two candidates with the most votes in the May primary for Position 3, have both lived in the area for two decades.

McNamee, an accountant, and Taylor, a teacher at Jefferson County Middle School, have both held various roles in the county.

McNamee served as county treasurer for several years, and was inspired to run because she wants to make sure county residents can use the services for which they pay taxes.

She’s looking forward to seeing funding go into county services, especially law enforcement. She also wants to focus on supporting the Jefferson County Fire and EMS District.

Taylor worked for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for nearly two decades before becoming a teacher. He has served on the Culver School District board and the Juniper Butte Road District, and said serving on a board is similar to serving as a county commissioner.

Taylor said he will meet with business owners, collaborate with the other county commissioners and generally bring economic development to the region.
