WILSONVILLE — The best season in years for Redmond boys soccer came to an end Tuesday night with a 2-1 loss at No. 6 Wilsonville in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

First-year coach T.J. Thrasher led the No. 11 Panthers into the playoffs after the team won just two matches last season and lost every Intermountain Conference match.

This year, Redmond finished second in the IMC with an overall record of 9-5-1.

“I want to say that these kids were always this good,” Thrasher said earlier this season. “And that this is just their time to shine.”

Wilsonville advanced to take on No. 3 Crescent Valley in the 5A quarterfinals on Saturday.

Since 2003, when Redmond lost in the big-school state championship match, winning seasons have been few and far between for the Panthers.

This season marked just the third playoff appearance since 2006 for Redmond, which endured 12 seasons of three or fewer wins — including three winless seasons — during that time span.

Crook County advances to 4A quarterfinals

No. 3 Crook County advanced to the Class 4A boys soccer state quarterfinals with a 3-1 win over No. 4 Phoenix on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cowboys (12-1-2), champions of the Tri-Valley Conference, will host No. 6 Cottage Grove on Saturday, time TBD.
