Caldera and its eight seniors are looking to make a deep run in the girls soccer state playoffs.
The Wolfpack’s performance Wednesday night was an ideal start.
Senior Kylee Jerome scored three goals to lead No. 3 Caldera to a 6-0 home victory over No. 14 Hood River Valley in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
The Wolfpack (12-2-2) advanced to host No. 6 Silverton on Saturday in the Class 5A quarterfinals, time TBD.
Kyla Findlater, Timmery Waldron and Katrin Garrity all added goals for Caldera in the lopsided win. Goalkeeper Reese Bradbury had three saves.
“We had a game plan and we stuck to it,” said Caldera coach Gavin Meyers. “We got an early goal, and then kind of battled. We stuck to what we intended to do and played our game, and it all came together in the end.
“I like where the girls are. They’re playing well. They’re playing the style and the way we want to play.”
Meyers added that this is a special season for Caldera, whose eight seniors have been in the program for the last four years, since the school opened.
“They’ve watched it grow from the beginning,” Meyers said. “So it’s super special to watch them mature and take the reins of leadership and see what they can do in the postseason.”
