The average rate on a 30-year mortgage in the U.S. rose for the sixth straight week, returning to its highest level since early July. Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday that the rate ticked up to 6.79% from 6.72% last week. That’s still down from a year ago, when the rate averaged 7.5%. When mortgage rates increase they can add hundreds of dollars a month in costs for borrowers. Mortgage rates are influenced by several factors, including the yield on U.S. 10-year Treasury bonds, which lenders use as a guide to price home loans.

The man who voiced America Online’s famous “You’ve got mail” greeting has died at age 74. Elwood Edwards died Tuesday at his home in New Bern, North Carolina. His daughter said the cause was complications from a stroke. Edwards taped his AOL greeting in 1989 while sitting in the living room of his home. “You’ve got mail” became a pop culture catchphrase in the late 1990s and served as the title of the 1998 film starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

Nintendo Co. and the Pokémon Co. are seeking compensation of around $65,700 in a patent infringement suit against Pocketpair Inc., the maker of hit game Palworld. The suit alleges that Pocketpair violated three patents, related to catching and riding the pokémon characters and having monsters fight one another, according to the statement. Palworld was an instant success when it debuted in January, earning the moniker “Pokémon with guns” among fans who compared the game’s monsters with those in Nintendo’s franchise. Patent protection in software typically covers elements of the user experience and gameplay mechanics, rather than the look of characters.
