Crook County third, Bend High fifth in volleyball state tournaments

No. 3 Crook County defeated No. 12 Stayton 3-0 on Saturday to claim third place in the Class 4A volleyball state tournament at North Bend High School.
The Cowgirls won with a score of 25-8, 25-15, 25-14 to finish their season with a state trophy and a record of 25-7.
Crook County started the tournament on Friday with a 3-1 victory (16-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-22) over No. 6 The Dalles in the quarterfinals. But the Cowgirls then fell to No. 2 Marist Catholic 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23) in the semifinals on Friday night to reach the third-place match.
No. 1 Marshfield defeated Marist Catholic 3-1 (26-24, 25-21, 23-25, 30-28) for the 4A state title on Saturday night.
Bend High fifth in 5A
In the Class 5A volleyball state tournament at Forest Grove High School, No. 4 Bend High finished fifth after falling to No. 3 Churchill 3-1 (25-23, 12-25, 25-9, 25-20) in the third-place match on Saturday.
The Lava Bears started out the tournament with a dramatic 3-2 come-from-behind victory over No. 5 Crater in the quarterfinals on Friday. Bend won with a score of 22-25, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17, 15-7 to advance to the semifinals.
But in the semifinals on Friday night, Bend fell to No. 1 undefeated South Albany 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-19) to reach the third-place match.
South Albany went on to beat No. 2 Crescent Valley 3-0 (25-4, 25-18, 25-19) for the 5A state title on Saturday night.
No. 7 Caldera lost in the quarterfinals to Crescent Valley 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 25-20) on Friday, then on Saturday narrowly fell in consolation to No. 6 Wilsonville 3-2 (29-27, 27-29, 25-16, 19-25, 15-13).
In the Class 1A volleyball state tournament at Ridgeview High School in Redmond, No. 8 Central Christian lost in the quarterfinals Friday to No. 1 Crane 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-21, 25-23). In consolation on Saturday, Central Christian fell to No. 4 Imbler 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-22).
Crane defeated No. 3 Union 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-23) to claim the 1A state title on Saturday night.
