A 52-year-old Bend man died Monday night after being struck by a train at SE Wilson Avenue in Bend. Tony Ray Monen was found dead at the scene. Sheila Miller, spokesperson for the Bend Police Department, said the agency is treating the incident as a suicide after an investigation determined Monen was lying on the tracks when struck.
Police were dispatched to the scene around 5:45 p.m. after reports of a person being struck by a southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway train. SE Wilson Avenue between Ninth and Centennial streets reopened at around 9:30 p.m. Monday after a crash reconstruction team finished its investigation.
Bend Police have not yet determined Monen’s housing status, Miller said, but court records do not indicate Monen was homeless.
