Three high-energy shows will grace the stage at Volcanic Theatre Pub (70 SW Century Drive, Bend) this week. Check out volcanictheatre.com for more information and to buy tickets.
Here’s what’s on the venue’s schedule:
On Friday night, it’s the return of Portland’s Yak Attack, a band that should need no introduction to Central Oregonians, because they play here often. But here’s one anyway: The Portland “electronic power trio” uses live looping techniques to crank out a blend of highly danceable electro-funk, trip-hop, drum and bass, breakbeat and house music. Spencer Marlyn Band opens. 8 p.m. Friday, doors open 7:30 p.m. $15.
Volcanic’s regular Bending Strings night showcases great upcoming rock ‘n’ roll acts from across the Pacific Northwest. This weekend’s bill features Tigers On Opium, a riff-obsessed heavy psych band from Portland; Bend’s own surf-flavored grunge band, Zorb; and Portland’s Rarefaction, a powerful proggy garage-rock band. Wear your rock pants, friends! 8 p.m. Saturday, doors open 7 p.m. $15.
Speaking of rock, Strawberry Girls are a dynamic and dizzying math rock and post-hardcore band with roots in California, though member Ben Rossett has lived in Bend for years. Here’s how I described them back in 2023: “They’re packed wall to wall with sound and melodies and rhythmic shifts. Sometimes they’re like far-off stars twinkling in outer space. Other times, they will pound you into the earth with their super-sick riffs.” And on Tuesday, they’ll headline a bill that features like-minded rockers The Seafloor Cinema and Batwave. 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, doors open 7 p.m. $20.
