Every Kid Outdoors is offering Oregon fourth-graders free public lands passes and permits to cut a Christmas tree in national forests.
The program offers fourth-graders and accompanying family members free entry to federally-managed public lands, water sites, recreation areas and historical sites across the country. Passes are valid from Sept. 1 the year the student begins fourth grade through Aug. 31.
Every Kid Outdoors pass holders are also eligible for permits to cut a Christmas or holiday tree in national forests.
The pass covers the pass holder, siblings and up to three adults. Visit the Every Kid Outdoors website to register for a pass. The website also offers an online visitor map to find activities.
To use the tree permit, visit recreation.gov and look for national forests offering tree permits for sale. Enter the number from your pass at purchase and the price will be waived. A $2.50 reservation fee will still apply. Permits can also be claimed at participating visitor centers and Ranger Stations.
Tree permits are also available to the public for $5.
