Never Come Down and Skillethead to play The Belfry in Sisters

Saturday is the winter solstice, which means the days will only get longer from then through next June — a small ray of hope in the deepest, darkest part of the year.

To celebrate, The Belfry in Sisters is hosting a solstice celebration featuring a couple of fine bluegrass bands. One of those is Skillethead, a local quintet that explores the genre’s traditional sounds as well as its more contemporary iterations.

The other is Never Come Down, a Portland-based band rooted in the bluegrass sound (and instrumentation), but unafraid of branching out into broader territories, such as Americana, country, rock and beyond. Their tunes are consistently vibrant and catchy, so it’s no surprise they’ve found success across the country, including at big festivals like Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Americanafest and RockyGrass.

Never Come Down and Skillethead: 7 p.m. Saturday, $29, The Belfry, 302 E. Main Ave., Sisters, belfryevents.com.
