Bend man arrested for allegedly firing gun in domestic dispute

- Bend Police continued their investigation Thursday afternoon into a Wednesday evening murder at Legacy Landing, a low-income apartment complex for seniors in Bend. Joshua Lawrence Smith has been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing his mother, Janice Marie Smith, 59.
A Bend man was arrested Friday morning for allegedly firing two shots during a domestic dispute inside a home in southeast Bend the night before.
Jacob Tyler Franke, 37, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, coercion, pointing a firearm at another, fourth-degree assault and recklessly endangering another person, according to a news release from the Bend Police Department.

Bend Police found a woman and three children outside a home on the 61000 block of SE Manhae Loop after responding to a 9:07 p.m. report of a domestic dispute Thursday evening. The family said Franke had fired two shots with a handgun and was still inside the home, according to the release.
Police and an emergency search team found evidence of the shots but not Franke. They also did not find the man in a search of the surrounding area.
Shortly after 8 a.m. Friday morning, police learned Franke was at a friend’s home on the 3600 block of NE Desert Juniper Lane in northeast Bend. After police set up a perimeter, Franke and the friend left the house in a black Tesla, which pulled over on Hamby Road near Paloma Drive.
According to the news release, Franke cooperated and was taken into custody at 8:28 a.m. He was lodged at the Deschutes County jail.
