A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 97 between Bend and Redmond Friday morning.

Oregon State Police responded to the crash at 4:12 a.m. According to a preliminary investigation, Steven Thomas Lakey, 54, of Bend, was driving northbound on the highway when the vehicle struck Glenn Curtis Watkins, 28, of Bend, who was on the highway for unknown reasons. Watkins was declared dead at the scene. Lakey was not injured. 

The crash is still under investigation.
