- Pip's classic doughnut and chai flavors are included at the shop, alongside Beaverton exclusives.
Pip’s Original, the Portland-based purveyor of mini doughnuts and chai, has closed its Beaverton location, the business announced on Sunday.
In a social media post, owners Nate and Jamie Snell wrote that in the face of economic conditions that “radically deteriorated over the last couple of years,” the duo sought ways to lower the rent and overhead on the Beaverton cafe.
“Unfortunately after months of trying to come to an understanding with our landlord and property management company we were ultimately unable to reach an accommodation and we were forced to shut the doors,” they wrote. “Sometimes you have to cut off the arm to save the body and that’s really what it felt like here.”
According to the social media post, Pip’s is working on a severance package for employees, will continue to provide healthcare for 30 days and will offer help finding new jobs.
As first reported by The Oregonian/OregonLive, Pip’s opened its second location in the corner space next to Beaverton’s short-lived Magna Kubo in July of 2023. The original Portland doughnut shop and cafe, 4759 N.E. Fremont St., where customers line up six days a week for free birthday doughnuts, remains open.
