Pink Talking Fish bring their three-fold tribute act to Volcanic Theatre

Published 10:00 am Tuesday, December 31, 2024

Pink Talking Fish will play Bend's Volcanic Theatre Pub on Thursday.

You’ve seen tribute acts. We’ve all seen tribute acts.

You may have even seen tribute acts that draw their act from two different bands, alternating songs from each or perhaps merging their songs and styles — like, for example, doing Miles Davis-style covers of Modest Mouse songs. (I just made that up. Don’t go looking for that band.)

But Pink Talking Fish does them all one (or two) better. As you might suspect from their name, this group of talented musicians — who call themselves a “Hybrid Tribute Fusion Act” — pays tribute to the music of psychedelic rock godfathers Pink Floyd, pillar of post-punk the Talking Heads and jam-band giants Phish, all in the same show.

Ambitious!

So how does it work? Let’s let the band’s official bio explain:

Most Popular

“Although the music from each act is different, Pink Talking Fish has discovered that fusing the material together creates an amazing story. The epic emotion of Pink Floyd… The funky, danceable layerings of The Talking Heads… The multitude of styles, unique compositional structures and pure fun of Phish… to merge these three into one gives music lovers a special experience.”

By all accounts, Pink Talking Fish not only employs a unique concept, they also throw down in a skillful and serious way that will keep a dance floor full of people happy for hours.

Pink Talking Fish, with The Hasbens: 8 p.m. Thursday, doors open 7:30 p.m., $20, Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend, volcanictheatre.com.
