Here are the candidates for The Bulletin’s Athletes of the Week for Dec. 30-Jan. 4 as nominated by local coaches and The Bulletin sports staff.

Girls

Kalyn Christ, Summit basketball: With the game tied against La Salle Prep in the closing seconds on Jan. 4, Christ scored on a floater at the buzzer to give the Storm a 52-50 win over the Falcons. The junior finished the game with a team-high 18 points.

Mackenzie Shearon, Redmond wrestling: At the Rollie Lane Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, on Jan. 3-4, Shearon advanced all the way to the championship match to finish second in the 145-pound weight class. Shearon pinned four opponents in the tournament.

Malibu Boynton, Crook County wrestling: The 100-pounder won seven of her eight matches, six of them by pin, at the Rollie Lane Invitational to finish third at the tournament with more than 80 teams.

Boys

Mason Thynes, Redmond wrestling: At the Rollie Lane Invitational, Thynes was the highest-placing Panther, finishing fourth in the 144-pound weight class. Thynes scored 21 points to help the Panthers finish 12th out of 93 teams in the tournament.

Jace Jonas, Crook County basketball: The junior guard averaged 17 points in the two wins over La Grande on Jan. 3 (69-59) and defending 4A state champion Baker (62-52) on Jan. 4, to help Crook County improve to 7-5.

Brady Muilenburg, Ridgeview basketball: In two wins last week over Woodburn and La Salle, Muilenburg scored a combined 63 points. Class 5A’s leading scorer scored 31 points in the Ravens’ 81-69 win over Woodburn on Dec. 30, then scored 32 in their 65-64 win over La Salle on Jan. 3.
