Choosing county commissioner chair
Our three county commissioners — Phil Chang, Patti Adair, and Tony DeBone — have served our county for four years. Chang was just re-elected and will start a new four-year term in a few weeks. Adair and DeBone both have two years left on their terms.
At the end of every year, the commissioners vote amongst themselves for the year’s next chair of our Deschutes County Commission. Four times in a row, Adair and DeBone have been chosen, with little or no consideration for Phil.
Four years in a row, the three of them have been led by Chair Patti, or Chair Tony. They will be serving us another two years together, the three of them.
The commission last month avoided the decision. A historic surprise. So this week — probably Wednesday — they will make the decision.
I refrain from posting my opinion about the vote. Except for one thing: You should not refrain from voicing your opinion. Either here, or directly in one form or another to the commission. You should do it in the interest of fairness, and democracy, and full service.

Bend as sunny as they say
There’s an old saying: “Statistics don’t lie, statisticians do.” The Bulletin’s interpretation of a “sunny” day in Bend Oregon tilted the conclusion toward denial of the “300 day” legend. That’s because they excluded “mostly cloudy” from the sunny day result. Anyone who lives here knows the joke: 20 minutes of sun peeking through the clouds counts! Interpreting the statistics that way would have changed the headline and supported the long standing legend of sunshine in Bend.

Voters had Trump amnesia
Jan. 6 should have been a day of reflection because it was four years ago that Mr. Trump incited an insurrection against our democracy because he didn’t get elected. Now he wants to pardon his loyalists who broke into the capital causing injuries and damage. Now, again he interfered with the election of the Speaker of the House by making threatening calls to those that vote against one of his loyalists that he wanted to get the seat.
I don’t understand how this convicted felon got re-elected to the highest office in our country. He has none of the attributes that a president should have. Jan. 20 will be a day of mourning what our country will be like for the next four years because voters forgot what he did his first four years.
He claims he’s going to have a mass deportation. I wonder if his grandpa ever told him what it was like to lose his citizenship to Germany and told to never come back because he wouldn’t do his military service. That must be why Trump’s dad paid a doctor to claim Trump had a bad boot, but it doesn’t seem to interfere with his golfing.
