Many climbers from Central Oregon qualified for the Divisional Championships at the USA Climbing Youth Bouldering Regional Championships this past weekend at the Bend Endurance Academy (BEA).

The event marked the first championship round that BEA has hosted in its new youth training facility in southeast Bend.

BEA had seven climbers qualify for divisionals, including two regional champions: Vance Stanfield in male U-19 and Soren Long in male U-15. Other podium placers from BEA include Nathaniel Perullo (male U-19), Soren Hasselblad (male U-17) and Ryker Long (male U-15).

In the overall team results, BEA finished third and Bend Rock Gym was seventh out of 15 teams.

Divisional qualifiers from Bend Rock Gym include Megan Schick (female U-20), Sage Cramp (female U-19), Sam Press (female U-15), Georgia Russell (female U-15), D. Coby Smith (male U-17), Levi Waters (male U-19) and Max Goode (male U-19).

The USA Climbing Youth Bouldering Divisional Championships, the next stop on the road to Nationals, will be held Feb. 8-9 at Vertical World North in Lynnwood, Washington. The divisionals will select who competes at Youth Nationals, set for July at the Portland Rock Gym.

BEA will host a divisionals preparation camp for any athletes looking to gain skills and knowledge for higher-level competitions. The camp is scheduled for Jan. 25-26 and will include several professional climbers and coaches, including two-time women’s World Cup medalist Alex Johnson.
