- The Mount Ashland peak rises above the Mt. Ashland Ski Area lodge.
Mt. Ashland Ski Area officials say a 76-year-old man died from his injuries Friday morning after colliding with a tree on the Windsor Chair line.
Officials from the nonprofit resort said the Windsor trail is categorized as “most difficult.”
“The victim was wearing a helmet. Ski Patrol arrived on scene and immediately initiated lifesaving efforts,” a Friday night release said. “Both Ski Patrol and Ashland Fire and Rescue continued their efforts as a Mercy Flights helicopter arrived to assist in the ski area’s medical room, where the man was pronounced deceased.”
“Our team is heartbroken by this loss,” said Andrew Gast, Mt. Ashland Ski Area general manager. “The Mt. Ashland community is tight-knit, and we share a deep bond with everyone connected to our mountain. We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated staff, Ski Patrollers, Ashland Fire and Rescue, and Mercy Flights for their swift and compassionate response.
The name of the individual has not been released.
