General contractor: Slayden Constructors, Inc.

Architect: Parametrix

Cost of the project: Approximately $26 million

Project details: The city of Bend is installing a regional pump station, gravity sewer and force main sewer to serve urban growth expansion in the adopted Southeast Area Plan. Senior project engineer Alex Doza said in an email that the project will increase overall sanitary sewer system capacity, efficiency and connectivity for properties within the area. The infrastructure will also help promote development in adjacent areas by providing a regional sewer solution.

The Southeast Area Plan was approved by Bend City Council in 2021 and added to the city’s urban growth boundary to facilitate further growth. The city recently added 100 acres to the boundary in southeast Bend for a 700-home development called Caldera Ranch.

The pump station will be located in the southeast corner of the southeast expansion area, near Knott Road and 27th Street and Diamondback Lane.

Numerous pump station sites were evaluated, Doza wrote. The site was selected as it was optimal to service development within nearly the whole basin via gravity sewer. The sewer will ultimately discharge into the existing sewer within Ferguson Road.

The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025. Construction began in July 2024.
