Comedy nights, open mics and workshops this week in Central Oregon

Brush up on your own comedic chops or enjoy local comedians at open mic nights, comedy nights and workshops this week in Central Oregon.

Check out a marijuana-influenced comedy show. The Downtown Bend Public Library is hosting a satire writing workshop. And try out your own jokes at one of Bend’s weekly comedy open mics.

Thursday Night Comedy Mic

Beertown Comedy has brought an open mic to Bend’s west side. There are 15 spots available, and each performer gets five minutes of stage time. Organizers ask that performers aim to bring genuine laughs to the stage no matter their experience. Performers will have a chance to get booked on a paid gig. Sign up at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m.

What’s So Funny? — A Satire Workshop

Writer Bob Balmer will discuss the difference between punching up and punching down as well as identifying a subject worthy of satire. This can enhance attendees’ writing and ensure it makes a salient point. Balmer’s writing has appeared in the Smithsonian, Golf Illustrated, ZYZZYVA, The Seattle Times, The Oregonian and other print media, and he has facilitated workshops in the Pacific Northwest and California.

Comedy Night

Join Bits N Skits Productions for a night of comedy at Hosmer Bar. Located in the lobby of the Waypoint Hotel, Hosmer Bar has happy hour at 6 p.m. before the show. Comedians may perform a mix of stand-up comedy, sketches and music.

The Dope Show

This is a comedy showcase where comedians perform a sober set, take a short intermission to smoke, and get back on stage to perform under the influence. Presented by comedian and ganja enthusiast Tyler Smith, the show will feature a variety of nationally touring comics, some of whom have never toked before, and others who have.

Comedy Night

Watch local comedians perform at this comedy night put on by Bits N Skits Productions. Due to explicit content, the show is recommended for individuals 21 years old and older.

Open Mic
