Lotus brings its electronic dance jams back to Bend

Published 1:30 pm Wednesday, February 5, 2025

The electro-jam band Lotus will play Bend's Midtown Ballroom on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Before we talk about the music of Lotus, let’s give a shout out to the band’s visual aesthetic, which is consistently cool and cohesive, yet it never feels too samey. Their posters, album covers, sweatshirts and other items always feature imagery that’s trippy and surreal, but in different ways.

A quick journey through the Merch section of the band’s website turns up a cool patch sporting a turtle with mountain peaks for a shell (designed by Steven Haversang); a T-shirt with an eerily futuristic exploding head (designed by Sam Charrois); a bunch of incredible and psychedelic show posters; and an LP copy of the album “Bloom & Recede” featuring beautiful cover art — a bulbous red mushroom basking in the thin, radial rays of a blackened sun — by Pearl Cowan.

Presumably, ultimate oversight of the band’s visuals belongs to the members of Lotus. Also presumably, they hire artists and graphic designers to create their visuals. Whatever the case, kudos to all involved.

By the way, Lotus is one of the leading electro-jam bands in America, and their shows are blissfully nonstop dance parties. See for yourself next week at the Midtown Ballroom.

Lotus, with Yak Attack: 7:30 p.m., doors open 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, $27 in advance, $35 at the door, Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend, midtownballroom.com.
