A recent survey conducted by Portland State University found that a majority of Bend residents trust the city’s police department and feel safe in their neighborhoods, though concerns about drug and alcohol offenses remain high.
The survey, conducted in October and November, was sent to 20,000 households, with about 10 percent responding. Among those surveyed, 78 percent said they trust Bend Police, and 76 percent expressed confidence in the department.

Most respondents reported feeling safe in their neighborhoods during the day (96 percent), though that number dropped to 77 percent at night. Concerns about traffic safety, drug offenses and theft were among the most frequently cited public safety issues.
While more than four in five respondents said their trust in police had remained unchanged, 22 percent reported feeling less safe than a year ago.
The survey results will help shape the department’s policies and priorities for the next two years, according to Bend Police.
