Friday is Valentine’s Day, and there are myriad events taking place in Central Oregon to celebrate. From The Sparrow Bakery’s annual cookie tradition to burlesque and live readings of Edgar Allan Poe, here are a few handpicked events to mark the occasion.
Sparrow Bakery’s Valentine’s Day tradition
After working as a barista at The Sparrow Bakery for three years, Kylie Baugus is joining the fine pastry team to make cookies for the discreet outdoor Valentine’s Day tent, which is accessible to adults aged 18 and over.
The tradition of purchasing X-rated sweets draws a line of people that extends around the corner, with people waiting hours to view and buy pastries, Baugus said.
“People definitely come excited for this day,” she said. “It’s kind of like our Super Bowl. It’s a big day for us.”
The shortbread cookie team will be baking and decorating large conversation hearts with creative phrases, available in the tent and the bakery with other cute, wholesome and family-friendly pastries.
To shorten waiting time, pre-orders will also be accepted online for pick up at the express window.

Prohibition-style dress is encouraged and attendance is limited to 21 years of age and older. At the time of writing, tickets were sold out for the front two rows and VIP bar seating.
