If you’re not familiar with gray divorce, the growing trend in which longtime married couples split up after age 65, you will be after seeing “Grand Horizons.”
The Bess Wohl play opening Friday at Cascades Theatrical Company mines the idea of gray divorce for both comedy and interpersonal drama when Nancy tells husband Bill over dinner that she wants a divorce 45 years into their connubial bliss.
When their sons and one daughter-in-law descend on Grand Horizons, the senior community in which Nancy and Bill reside, hijinks ensue.
“At certain points, everyone behaves like a child,” Desi Thrower writes in her director’s note for the play.
“Even though the topic of the story is serious and somewhat dire, it is hysterical, witty, poignant, and, in the end, hopeful.”
Show time is 7:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $36, $32 students and seniors.
“Grand Horizon” will continue to perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, through March 2. Cascades Theatrical Company, 148 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend.
