Police in Madras responded to a person firing a gun near a truck stop around 3 a.m. Monday morning, prompting a shelter in place order that was lifted several hours later.
The Madras Police Department requested the shelter in place order within a quarter mile radius of the area near the Loves Travel Plaza, a truck stop south of downtown Madras. The order instructed people to remain indoors and secure all windows and doors and avoid the truck stop area.
According to James Matthews, public information officer for dispatch services, a person had allegedly gained access to a firearm and begun firing shots. Police requested the order to be lifted at about 5:50 a.m., Matthews said.
Madras Police Department declined to provide the suspect’s name because the suspect is a juvenile.
