Kuinka celebrates 10 years of ‘The Wild North’ in Bend

Over the past decade, Kuinka has evolved into a bouncy pop-rock band with a sound built from sparkling synths and lite-funk bass lines and wiry indie-rock guitars. They’re energetic and dynamic and highly danceable.
But old-time fans of the Seattle band will remember when they released their 2014 album, “The Wild North,” which is more string-driven, more acoustic, more folksy and more earnest. Back then, they were almost bluegrassy at times, like The Head and the Heart stuck on fast-forward, or the softer side of Bend’s own Larry and His Flask.
The point here is that bands are just like people: They grow and change and learn new things and leave old things behind. And they look back on the old days, often with a fondness for the way things used to be, even if things are better now.
Over the past couple of months, Kuinka has been celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the release of “The Wild North” by playing shows to the album, and on Saturday, they’ll do exactly that in Bend.
Kuinka, with Billy and the Box Kid: 8 p.m. Saturday, April 12, doors open 7:30 p.m., $17, Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend, midtownballroom.com.
