Laura Jane Grace is a punk rock legend, best known for her role as the founder, frontperson and songwriter behind the Florida punk band Against Me.
Against Me seems to be on either a long or permanent hiatus, but that doesn’t mean Grace isn’t keeping busy. She published a memoir in 2016, called “Tranny: Confessions of Punk Rock’s Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout.” She played a fundraiser for Bernie Sanders. She got married. She made a couple of solo albums and a record under the name Laura Jane Grace and the Devouring Mothers.
In July, she’ll release a new album called “Adventure Club,” billed as Laura Jane Grace in the Trauma Tropes. And in September of last year, she released the “Give An Inch” EP under the name Laura Jane Grace & The Mississippi Medicals. It’s a sort of galloping, alt-country take on pop-punk, which seems about right for a band with Matt Patton (Drive By Truckers) on bass and Mike Erg (The Ergs) on drums. (Grace’s wife, Paris Campbell Grace, rounds out the Mississippi Medicals’ lineup.)
Got all that? The point is that Grace is prolific, she’s reliably awesome and she’s a shape-shifter who is unafraid of trying new things. On Monday night, she’ll bring the Mississippi Medicals to Bend for a show at the Domino Room, where you can go shape-shift with her.
Laura Jane Grace & The Mississippi Medicals, with Alex Lahey and Rodeo Boys: 7 p.m. Monday, April 21, $25, Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend, midtownballroom.com.
