Writers featured at OSU-Cascades events in May

Oregon State University-Cascades will host Oregon Poet Laureate Ellen Waterston, journalist Lori Hellis and poet Stacy Gnall for readings and discussions in May.

Waterston will present “Never Say ‘Whoa’ in a Horse Race,” a discussion and reflection on her writing life, from 6 to 8 p.m. May 10 in Edward J. Ray Hall. Waterston is a poet, author and columnist.

Hellis, who graduated from the university’s Master of Fine Arts in writing program in 2017, will discuss her crime writing and bringing insight to stories that are known nationally 6 to 8 p.m. May 13 in Tykeson Hall.

Gnall will be featured as the writing program’s Spring 2025 Distinguished Writer from 6 to 8 p.m. May 14 in Edward J. Ray Hall. Gnall is currently poet-in-residence at the University of Detroit Mercy.

The events are free but registration is required. To register, visit OSUcascades.edu/community. These events are part of the Master in Fine Arts in Writing program twice-annual residencies, when acclaimed and emerging writers present at events and work with students.
