Bend Police say a 19‑year‑old Bend motorcyclist was hurt Wednesday morning after attempting to pass stopped traffic in the bike lane on Empire Avenue at Northeast Plateau Court.

Investigators report that Nathan Zweers was westbound on Empire Avenue when he rode his motorcycle into the bike lane to pass traffic and struck a Chevrolet Suburban driven by Jacob Neer of Redmond, who was turning left from Empire Avenue onto Plateau Court at 7:41 a.m. Paramedics took Zweers to St. Charles Bend with non-life-threatening injuries. Neer was not injured.

Officers cited Zweers for alleged reckless driving, unlawful passing on a motorcycle, driving without insurance and displaying altered plates. Empire Avenue was closed while the Bend Police investigated.
