Three days after its sixth anniversary party, Boss Rambler Beer Club announced on Instagram that it will close its taproom at the end of the summer, leaving one last season to enjoy its patio on Galveston Avenue.
The decision was made in anticipation of the Galveston Corridor Project, an upcoming comprehensive redesign of the street by the City of Bend and a shift in focus toward growing the brewery’s Stokes Cold Ones brand, said Kate Molleta, co-founder of the brewery.
Stokes Cold Ones is a collection of three lagers distributed by Portland-based Point Blank Distributing.
“The property is currently under contract for sale. While we’re unable to share details about the transaction or the buyer’s future plans for the space, we’re excited to continue serving our community at The Beer Club on Galveston through the summer,” said Molletta in an email to The Bulletin.
While a definitive last day hasn’t been set, Molletta expects the taproom to cease operations around late September.
“We’re looking forward to plenty more good times and cold beers on the patio in the coming months,” she said.
The Beer Club
Boss Rambler’s beer was often featured in the “Top 5 beers of the week,” a list of favorite beers by The Bulletin’s former beer columnist Jon Abernathy. Last year, he sung the praises of the Aussie Sauce Xtra Pale, Waimea Slay Hazy IPA and Boogie Gourd Pumpkin Ale.
The brand notably launched its beers ahead of the opening of its Galveston taproom on April 20, 2019. The concept was founded by Matt Molletta and Jacob Bansmer, who met while working at Crux Fermentation Project, in addition to Matt’s wife, Kate Molletta, former marketing professional at Boneyard Beer and Karen and Mike Altman.
Upcoming Galveston Corridor Project
Construction of the corridor project will likely affect the string of businesses on Bend’s west side, especially those between NW 14th Street and the Deschutes River, home to Ariana, El Sancho Taco Shop, 10 Barrel Brewing Co., Sunriver Brewing Co. and BOSA Food & Drink, among others.
According to the city’s website, the design phase is complete and the build phase is scheduled to begin this year, with improvements including the construction of a five-foot-wide bike lane, on-street parking and eight-foot-wide sidewalks.
