The Deschutes National Forest is planning to install a new, permanent boat dock this week at Crane Prairie Reservoir.

Construction work, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, will temporarily close the Crane Prairie boat launch during installation work. The boating site parking lot will be minimally impacted by the project and will remain available for vehicle and trailer parking.

The nearest alternative launch site during the temporary closure is Crane Prairie Resort, which is available for public use for a fee.

The dock will comprise six sections, each one 20 feet long by six feet wide. The number of boats that can tether along the dock at the same time will vary based on several factors including boat size, says Kaitlyn Webb, a spokesperson for the Deschutes National Forest.

The permanent dock will replace one of the temporary docks at the lake. It is located at the end of Gale’s Landing Rd.

Crane Prairie is currently accessible from the southern end of the Cascade Lakes Highway, which opened in mid-April. The northern entrance to the highway near Mt. Bachelor is planned to open during the Memorial Day weekend.
