REDMOND — As Tanner Manselle goes, so does the Redmond boys’ basketball team this season.
Manselle led the Panthers with 25 points and 18 rebounds in an 82-61 home victory over Class 6A nonconference opponent West Salem on Friday night. The senior wing made eight of 12 field goals and ended the night seven of eight from the free throw line.
“He was hurt most of last year, and I think he’s really feeling healthy this year,” Redmond coach Jon Corbett said of Manselle. “He’s playing with a lot of confidence.”
Dangerous as Manselle is by himself, he has a lot of help around him.
Zach Jackson scored 13 points for the Panthers, and Matt Dahlen and Trevor Genz added 11 points apiece. What impressed Corbett on Friday night was the effort that doesn’t always translate into statistics.
“Zach and Kyle (Reed) did a great job of keeping (West Salem) guys off the boards,” Corbett said.
“Genz and (Connor) Lau did a phenomenal job on defense. Connor is working real hard. He ran through (about) 47 screens tonight.”
Redmond scored at least 20 points in every quarter, taking a 42-28 halftime lead. The Titans cut the lead to 12 points in the fourth quarter but were unable to close the gap.
The Panthers kept West Salem off balance defensively by making eight of 24 three-pointers and 22 of 28 free throws.
“The kids are shooting with a lot of freedom,” Corbett said. “When we’re on, it’s a lot of fun to watch.”
Titans wing Alex Roth led all scorers on the night with 31 points.
Redmond (3-1 overall) plays at Summit on Tuesday in an Intermountain Hybrid contest.
