Nov. 8, 1917 – Nov. 23, 2012

Dr. Giles Stevens Steve Porter passed away in Portland on Friday, November 23, 2012. He was 95 years old. He was born in Moore, Montana on November 8, 1917, to Dr. Earl Stevens Porter and Juanita Blanche (Palmer) Porter. He was raised in Lewistown, Montana and attended Stanford University and Yale Medical School. He married Elaine Morrison in December 1941. He served as medical officer on a navy destroyer in the Pacific theater during World War II.

Following WW II, Dr. Porter established his medical practice in Eugene, Oregon. He was a general practice physician and surgeon and was affiliated with Sacred Heart Hospital.

In later years, he worked as a trauma specialist in the emergency department of Sacred Heart Hospital.

While in Eugene, he and Elaine raised a family of six children. Dr. Porter was an active outdoorsman who took his family on many adventures hiking, camping, backpacking, and skiing.

In the late 1970s, Dr. and Mrs. Porter moved to Sunriver where he worked at the emergency department at St. Charles Hospital in Bend until his retirement.

Dr. Porter is survived by his sister, Betty Lou Lay of Salem; children: Sandra (Steve) Randels of Seattle, Michael (Patricia) Porter of Bend, John (Priscilla) Porter of Vancouver, WA, Earl (Glen) Porter of Portland, Steven (Elizabeth) Porter of Portland and Susanne (Herb) Monk of Missoula, MT; his 7 grandchildren, Holly (Ed) Wettig of Bend, Lisa (Kurt) von Wasmuth of Tigard, Erin (Leo) Cole of Kirkland, WA, William (Catherine) Porter of Newton, NJ, Kelly Randels of Seattle, Alexander (Emily) Porter of Manhattan Beach, CA, and Erica (Veikko) Valli of London, UK; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine and his granddaughter, Emily.
