Comparing nut butters

Ever wondered if almond butter was healthier than peanut butter? Turns out, there’s very little difference, in terms of nutritional value. Here’s a comparison:

“Almond butter has slightly more calcium and fiber than peanut butter and the saturated fat content is a little bit lower. But peanut butter has a higher concentration of plant sterols and stanols which may help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol. I wouldn’t say that one is more nutritious than the other,” said Annie Baumann, registered dietitian at Bend Memorial Clinic.

“The most important thing to remember when choosing any nut butter is to make sure there are no added fats or sugars. The ingredients list on a natural peanut or almond butter will contain the nut and maybe salt. There shouldn’t be anything else.”
