More tai chi

Several of us in master teacher Jenny Sheldon’s tai chi classes were delighted to read the headline “Yoga, tai chi can help ease chronic pain” in the Nov. 4 Bulletin.

However, as we read through the piece, we were surprised to find only one sentence referring to tai chi in the entire article.

In Jane E. Brody’s Sept. 27 article, “A downside to tai chi? None that I can see” in The New York Times, she notes several of the extraordinary benefits of “this graceful, dancelike progression of meditative poses,” just a few of which are improved balance and flexibility, reduced blood pressure and improved immunity.

In that same article, “Dr. Chenchen Wang and colleagues at Tufts Medical Center in Boston reported in August in The New England Journal of Medicine that tai chi reduced pain and fatigue and improved the patients’ ability to move, function physically and sleep.”

We hope The Bulletin will plan to do a follow-up article on this amazing practice. There is so much more to say.
